1st Annual Wildling Ride
If you would like the opportunity to explore private ranches and enjoy wilderness inspired art, the Wildling Art Museum is launching a new program that combines horses, art, and nature on an annual trail ride (or alternative Nature Walk for those without horses).
On Saturday, October 30, with special permission, the Museum’s ride will meander through the private properties of El Chorro and Ytias Ranches, which were originally part of the San Julian land grant and have never been opened to trail riders before. Led in small groups, spaced an hour apart to ensure a quality experience, the ride will traverse a changing terrain up and down hills, through oak trees, and past magnificent views. As you ride, you will have an opportunity at various locations to see plein air painters from the local “Oak Group” at work. In addition, during the lunch stop-over, you will have a chance to bid on plein-air paintings created earlier of El Chorro and Ytias Ranch – a perfect memento for a wonderful day!
Towards the end of your ride or after your nature walk, there will be an hour-long break to savor a gourmet, traditional southern-style lunch catered by “The Barbecue Company.” During the respite, you will be entertained by the lively “Pilgrim String Band,” have the chance to bid on your favorite plein air painting, and there will be some historic carriages on display courtesy of the Carriage and Western Art Museum of Santa Barbara.
This may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel through and appreciate the stunning vistas of these historic properties. The Horse Ride & lunch is $95 and the Nature Walk & Lunch is $45.
