Santa Ynez, CA -

The Stuart C. Gildred Family YMCA is accepting registrations for High School teens, grades 9-12, that are interested in having a voice in their community and being a part of a state-wide “Youth & Government” program. The YMCA Youth & Government is a highly acclaimed California Model Legislature and Court Program that brings together over 2,400 students from across the state of California to participate in state government through trainings that improve public speaking and leadership skills, and a 5 day Sacramento conference in February.

Participants will write legislation, debate motions, lobby bills, argue actual court cases and may choose to participate in the media program. For those interested in participating, a parent and participant information meeting will be held Wednesday, September 18th, 2:30 p.m. at the Stuart C. Gildred Family YMCA. Please call (805) 686-2037 to RSVP. Scholarships are available through the YMCA’s Campaign for Youth, the Santa Barbara Foundation, and the YMCA Youth & Government Scholarship Fund.
