Reagan's Ranch Surviving as Historical Site

Rancho del Cielo, at the top of Refugio Road, was purchased by the Reagans at the end of his second term as governor of California. Shown here, President Reagan brushes down his favorite horse, El Alamein, which was a gift from the President of Mexico.

Today, the ranch belongs to the Young America Foundation, and is being preserved as part of President Reagan's legacy, along with the Reagan Ranch Center in Santa Barbara - the "Schoolhouse for Reaganism".

About the horse: the name "El Alamein" was the name of the last battle for Africa in World War II, in which Rommel lost to Eisenhower's brigade. We [ed] don't know (yet) how the horse adopted the name.

President Reagan said: "We relax at the Ranch, which if not Heaven itself, probably has the same ZIP code."
