The SYVPB Cardinals, coached by Dwayne Elder, Dom DellaValle, and Ed Deats, finished in first place for the 2004 regular season with an impressive 11-4 record.
During the post-season playoffs the Cardinals fought back from an early tournament loss to the Mets to also clinch first place. Their overall season record totaled 17 wins and 5 losses.
The final tournament game played on June 7 against the Astros was a nail-biter, with the lead see-sawing back and forth for six innings. Excellent pitching by starter Logan Deats in the first four innings and three key double plays by the Cardinals during the game kept the score close. The Cardinals, behind by one run in the top of the seventh inning, tied the game with a line drive double down the right field line by Frankie Goldsmith. Logan Elder later scored the go-ahead run on a hit by Chris Lastra. A strong showing by Cardinals closing pitcher Nicho DellaValle and excellent defense by the whole team clinched the game and first place in the tournament.
