Santa Ynez, CA - "The Great Ice Cream Scheme, or Robin Baskins to the Rescue" is a funny melodrama that will bring lots of laughter and fun to the audience. In April 2007, Santa Ynez Christian Academy Middle School drama class will be presenting a melodrama titled The Great Ice Cream Scheme or … Robin Baskins to the Rescue!

Melodrama is a wonderful format for actors to experience an energetic, light-hearted approach to our vaudeville past. “Once again the villain and villainess will boil your blood, the hero and heroine will win your hearts, and the jokes will split your corsets!” says Ceci Endy one of the co-directors of the play.

The melodrama has become an annual event that culminates a year of hard work with much laughter and applause. The students have learned the basics of acting under the leadership of Mrs. Lori Kennedy, who has been teaching and directing melodrama for the Santa Ynez Valley Christian Academy for more than ten years. Other co-directors are Ceci Endy and Miss Elisa Endy, middle school teachers at The Christian Academy. Accompanying them as the “sound man” is Mr. Hulshizer, another middle school teacher. Mrs. Tammy Mandrell, computer and P.E. teacher, lends her helping hands backstage, as well.

The play will open at Santa Ynez Valley High School Little Theater on Thursday, April 12; Friday, April 13; Saturday, April 14, at 7:00 P.M.; or on Sunday, April 15, at 2:00 P.M. Tickets are $6 (children 12 and under) and $8 (adults). There will be an intermission, during which desserts, ice creams and beverages will be sold. To purchase Tickets please contact Santa Ynez Valley Christian Academy at (805) 688-3830.
