Solvang, CA - If you like to check out those interesting sea animals and sea shells that exist in the shallow water, there will be an extremely low tide (-4 feet) at 4:45PM at Gaviota Beach on Monday, November 6. View the tide information for further details. That amounts to about 115 feet of extra beach at low tide! (This is also a great time to photo the sunset.)
Another great daylight low tide is the following day, Tuesday November 7, at 5:00PM. Unfortunately, most low tides occur during night hours, when the sun isn't yet above the horizon.
The tides are the effect of the combined gravitational pulls of the sun and moon - the sun having the greatest influence. At night, the sun is "pulling" the ocean tide down because it's on the other side of the earth. We happen to have a large, nearby fall full moon which also is causing the intensification of low tide.
