May 31, 2004 -

DON'T MISS IT! - "Fiddler on the Roof" will open at the Solvang Festival Theatre on June 16, running until July 18, 2004. Directed by Eli Simon, this Broadway winner of nine Tony awards is a radiant story about a poor Jewish family in Czarist Russia.

Set in 1905 - the dawn of the Leninist revolution - the story is about a family's and a country's response to cultural change, and contains such memorable songs as "If I Were a Rich Man", "Sunrise, Sunset", "Matchmaker Matchmaker" and "Far From The Home I Love."

Fiddler on the Roof has been in production since April 15 at Santa Maria's Marian Theater. Here are some reviews:

"It's as good as Broadway" - The Santa Maria Times
"The Theatrefest team has created a show with high humor, drama, pathos, memorable songs, dazzling dance and fine acting" - San Luis Obispo Tribune
The production features David Studwell as Tavye, the Dairyman, who has been a resident actor for PCPA since 2000, and has appeared in many roles in productions including "Crazy for you", "Streetcar Named Desire", "Sweeny Todd", "My Fair Lady", and "Macbeth". Mr. Studwell was a Resident Actor Teacher with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, various theatres in the Chicago area, the Alliance Theater in Atlanta, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He received his Bachelor's in Fine Arts from State University of New York and his Masters in Fine Arts from Purdue University.

Kathleen Mary Mulligan plays the part of both Granma Tzeitel and Yente, the Matchmaker in the story. Ms. Mulligan is also a Resident Actor at PCPA, and has performed in previous productions of "The Tempest", "The Taming of the Shrew", and "A Streetcar Named Desire". She has performed at such venues as the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Fort Worth Shakespeare in the Park, and The American Repertory Theatre. Ms. Mulligan received her Bachelors in Fine Arts from Boston University, and her Masters in Fine Arts from Southern Methodist University.

The production also features Heidy Ewert, Jack Greenman, and Timothy Castro, who have also served as Resident Actors at PCPA and have performed in a variety of theatres across the country.

The Solvang Festival Theatre is located at 420 2nd Street in Solvang. Tickets are available at the Theatre Box Office from 2PM through 7PM Weds through Sunday, or in advance by calling 805-922-8313 (closed Monday). Ticket prices range from $24.50 to $28.50 (Senior and Children discount prices are also available).

This is anticipated to be one of PCPA's finest. Performances start at 8:30PM (bring a blanket, since this is an outdoor theatre, and the weather cools off in the evening).
